On February 8 and 9, 1919, pilot Lucien Bossoutrot, accompanied by his mechanic Lhomde and twelve British military personnel, embarked on the maiden voyage of a commercial passenger aircraft from Toussus-le-Noble near Paris to Kenley near London. The 'Airbus' Farman Goliath took off at 11:50 AM on February 8, 1919, and safely landed in Kenley, Croydon, England, two hours and thirty minutes later. The prototype of the FF-60 had already made its first flight without passengers at the end of October 1918. However, the German surrender on November 7, 1918, rendered the French Air Force's order for a heavy bomber at Farman obsolete. Production at Farman's Billancourt plant was immediately shifted to commercial use, marking the dawn of commercial aviation. In December 1918, the French magazine 'LAerophile' featured the Farman Goliath 'Airbus' with a description by Ernest Archdeacon that likened the passenger cabin to an elegant, fully enclosed lounge, equipped with comfortable, lightweight wicker seats, and illuminated by large, stable windows, allowing passengers to enjoy unobstructed views of the landscape below.
