Introduced in mid-1944, the heavy tank Sd.Kfz 182 Panzer VI Ausf. B King Tiger served in the German army. Distinct from the Tiger I, it featured a massive size (nearly 70 tons), impressive armor, a sloped front hull, and a formidable 88 mm KwK 43 L/7 cannon. Powered by a Maybach V-12 engine, the King Tiger could reach a top speed of 42 km/h. Two different turrets were used in production: the Porsche turret and the more numerous Henschel turret, both capable of storing 80 grenades. The King Tiger first saw combat in July 1944, employed by the 503rd Heavy Tank Battalion during the Battle of Normandy.
