2019 N Marina Islands Cut Coin Keychain Memorial US State Park Quarter Jewelry
In 2019, the United States Mint released a quarter coin honoring the Northern Mariana Islands as part of the America the Beautiful Quarters Program. The reverse (tail side) of the 2019 Northern Mariana Islands quarter features an indigenous Carolinian man in traditional attire pounding a large stick on a latte stone, symbolizing the significant cultural and historical aspects of the islands. Latte stones are ancient stone pillars found throughout the Mariana Islands, which are believed to have been used as building supports by the ancient Chamorro people.
The coin's design also includes a Carolinian mwar (head lei) in the background, and two white fairy tern birds flying in the sky. The reverse design was created by Donna Weaver and engraved by Phebe Hemphill. The coin's reverse also includes the inscriptions "NORTHERN MARIANA ISLANDS"
