In the long history of the world's first blue jeans, a style combining bar tacks (instead of rivets) and the "Big E" red tab emerged only for a brief period, like a blink of an eye, from 1966 to 1971. From 1971, the LEVI'S® lettering on the double-sided red tab changed to Levi's®, and this change meant that only products from the late 1960s had the 501® with bar tacks and the "Big E" red tab. The fit is rounded at the top with a tapered leg silhouette.
