I have here for sale a rare book entitled The Cape and its story, or the struggle for South Africa, by M. Douglas. Published by Thomas Nelson and sons, London, Edinburgh, and New York in 1903. It's a first edition. 2 coloured plates : a history, written for teenagers, of the white settlers and the struggle for South Africa; South Africa Cape province african history white settlers boer matabele isandhlwana kimberley south african history. In good condition overall. Blue illustrated cloth boards with gilt lettering. Colour illustrated title page and frontispiece. Prize plate stuck to front pastedown, previous owner's pencil writing to ffep. Clean pages with light tanning and mild foxing throughout. More pronounced to free endpapers and pastedowns. Hinges are slightly cracked. Binding remains firm. Boards have mild edge-wear with slight rubbing to surfaces and bumping to corners. Gilt lettering is bright and clear. 314 pages, plus 6 pages (publisher ads.), 19 cm x 14 cm.
