Original yellow (orangish) watermelon painting by Moses Ernest Tolliver, the celebrated American folk artist. This yellow watermelon is a classic Mose T painting and a great representative piece of MoseT's work. The painting is signed prominently with Tolliver's classic "MoseT" with the backwards S. Like most of Tolliver's paintings, this piece is done on salvaged wood, evidenced by the painted staple and screw hole (see third picture).
The piece measures just over 12 inches wide and just under 10 inches tall. It is just over 1/4 an inch thick. It comes equipped with Mose T's classic pop tab hanger, securely fastened.
Condition as shown. Will be shipped carefully, wrapped and boxed.
Mose Tolliver (1918–2006) was one of the South's most celebrated self-taught painters. Born in Montgomery, Alabama, he began painting in the 1960s after a workplace injury left him unable to walk easily.
