Helmet bags were created in the mid-1940s after World War II for US Air Force pilots to carry helmets, oxygen masks, and other items. The 1st type was tote bag-style, and the 2nd type was drawstring-style, evolving with the times, and designs from the 3rd type onwards are now common.

The Okonkwo helmet bag uses water-resistant nylon fabric with a padded cotton layer to enhance durability and protection from light impacts.
